Joie de Vivre Hospitality establishes 'Big Sur Fire Relief Fund'
SAN FRANCISCO (July 24, 2008) - Joie de Vivre Hospitality, California's leading independent boutique hotelier with a growing diverse restaurant collection, recently announced a special program to help a Big Sur community ravaged by the Basin Complex Fire, which has burned more than 120,000 acres and destroyed 27 homes and 32 other buildings.
Joie de Vivre Hospitality, which manages the landmark Big Sur resort, Ventana Inn & Spa, has established the "Big Sur Fire Relief Fund" and will be giving a donation from each specially made reservation at its collection of boutique hotels and affiliated properties throughout the state.
Beginning July 18 at all Joie de Vive hotels and JdV affiliate properties throughout California, guests will have the opportunity to book rooms with a $5 "Big Sur Fire Relief Fund" donation attached to their reservation. All proceeds will go to the Big Sur Volunteer Fire Brigade, which provides structure and wild land fire protection for the residents and businesses in its service area covering 60 miles of coastline, along Highway One (from Hurricane Point on the north end to the Monterey/San Luis Obispo County line on the south). Formed in 1974, the Fire Brigade consists of community members who volunteer their time to provide fire and emergency services to all of Big Sur with a spirit of teamwork, respect and integrity.
"This philanthropic effort will allow our guests to be a part of the Big Sur recovery effort and help protect against further structural damage throughout the fire season," said Chip Conley, founder and CEO of Joie de Vivre Hospitality.
Firefighters saved Ventana Inn & Spa from any damage during the Basin Complex Fire though it closed in on the property at one point two weeks ago. As of the date of this release, the fire is 61 percent contained and officials believe it will be fully controlled by the end of July. Assuming it is free from further fire danger, Ventana is scheduled to re-open Aug. 22.
Guests can book "Big Sur Fire Relief Fund" reservations at Joie de Vivre properties at www.jdvhotels.com. Reservations must be booked by Oct. 1 with travel completed by Dec. 31.
